Manchester United have been cautioned against bringing in Roy Keane as temporary boss following Ruben Amorim's exit. The Portuguese manager was sacked on Monday morning after an explosive press conference that followed Sunday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road.
The search for Amorim's successor has already begun, with Darren Fletcher stepping in as caretaker for Wednesday evening's Premier League encounter against Burnley at Turf Moor. There remains a chance that United could name an interim boss until the season's end, before pursuing a permanent hire during the summer.
Old Trafford legend Keane has emerged as one of the candidates being mentioned by some pundits for the temporary role. However, former United keeper Ben Foster reckons Keane's lack of patience with today's modern stars would make him unsuitable for working with the existing squad, who could push his limits.
Instead, he's proposed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should make a comeback to the dugout for now.
Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, the former Watford and Wrexham goalkeeper joked: "I think Roy Keane would last about five minutes with these players before he punches somebody in the face. One of those players not tracking back or throwing their arms in the air and bang.
"Solskjaer's your boy. It's a proven, tried and tested method of doing things. Give him a temporary job. Give it to Ole to steady the ship, bring a bit of harmony back about the place and let the players feel good about themselves again. Don't get carried away with 'Ole's at the wheel' though."
Solskjaer has been out of work since Besiktas dismissed him in August . Speculation has surfaced suggesting the 52-year-old would welcome the chance to return to United after previously accepting the same role in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho 's departure.

The Norwegian delivered a remarkable run of results that earned him the position permanently. Nevertheless, he was eventually dismissed in November 2021 after a poor start to the campaign.
Foster's observations come after he suggested that United should target Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as their next long-term appointment. His comments came despite doubts over whether the Spaniard would consider the role given United's present chaos.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Foster said: "I have to throw one name in there, who's the best manager in the world for me at the minute and that is Unai Emery . Aston Villa fans will hate this because they do not want to get rid of this guy, because he is right at the top. I don't even know if he'd be interested, though.
"I get the impression they need somebody with a big character, a lot of authority and almost a bit of an aura to take that pressure away from the players. I just think there's too many chefs trying to stir the broth of Manchester United."
