Next Man Utd boss: Three names included on shortlist to replace Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have England boss Thomas Tuchel on a three-man shortlist for Ruben Amorim ’s long-term successor. The Portuguese coach was sacked earlier this month after a poor year-and-a-half at the helm at Old Trafford.

United chiefs have already launched the search for his eventual replacement, with interim options being focused on for now. Former midfielder Darren Fletcher is in caretaker charge for now and could be retained.

Fellow ex-United stars Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have emerged as potential options , while former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was previously considered too. And while either one of the three could be in charge until the end of the season, thought is also being put into a long-term replacement.

Mirror Football understands that there are currently three outstanding names on the shortlist to take over in the summer. England boss Tuchel is among those options and could potentially be offered the job depending on what happens during the Three Lions’ World Cup campaign.

The German’s current contract expires following the tournament but he has confirmed that he is open to staying on. Speaking during the last camp, he said: “Yeah, it's a lot of fun.

“There is nothing to announce right now. Most important is that we stay focused now for the next camp. I'm in a good place mentally because I love the team and love the federation. I haven't thought much about the contract, we have plenty of time for it.”

Another World Cup-bound manager that is also being eyed by the Red Devils is Carlo Ancelotti . The Italian is currently in charge of the Brazilian national team.

He too has a contract that will run until the World Cup, albeit there have been talks to extend that initial deal. A final international option for United is current USA coach Mauricio Pochettino .

The Argentine is set to lead the nation into next summer’s World Cup as joint-hosts. Pochettino has regularly been linked with taking the reins at Old Trafford - particularly during his time with Premier League rivals Tottenham .

He spent a season with Chelsea during the 23/24 campaign but was jettisoned after just one year. Pochettino signed a two-year deal with the USA in September 2024, with that deal also expiring come the conclusion of the World Cup.

As it stands, Fletcher remains in charge and will oversee this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Brighton . Talks remain ongoing with their interim options, with the hope that a decision will be made by next weekend’s derby against Manchester City .
