Looking to close out another disappointing year on a positive note, Manchester United will aim for back-to-back victories as they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. After narrowly defeating Newcastle United on Boxing Day, United hope to end 2025 with another three points against the Premier League’s bottom side.

Despite being without several key players, including inspirational captain Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United strengthened their push for European qualification last time out, with Patrick Dorgu’s spectacular volley sealing a win over Newcastle. Ruben Amorim’s side adopted an unfamiliar four-man defense, conceding much of the possession and riding their luck at times, but ultimately held on for a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Even with a makeshift backline—featuring a teenager and a player who has missed most of 2025 through injury—United managed just their second Premier League clean sheet of the season.

After winning only four of his first 14 top-flight home games, Amorim has started to turn things around at Old Trafford, with five wins from the last eight matches lifting the mood among United supporters. Fans will expect that momentum to continue, as United have won eight of their last 11 encounters with Wolves, including a 4-1 triumph at Molineux earlier this month. However, having lost their final league match in each of the past two years, United will be wary of another slip-up against opponents who seem destined for relegation.

Wolves, meanwhile, have managed to win their final fixture in just one of the last six calendar years but did manage a surprise 1-0 victory on their last visit to Old Trafford in April. That result was a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult year: the Midlands club have lost 25 Premier League matches and could match the unwanted record of 26 set by Ipswich Town in 1994.

Winless in 18 league games this season, Wolves are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points and have endured 11 consecutive defeats following Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool. Now 16 points adrift of safety, Rob Edwards’ side are already preparing for life in the Championship, with pride the only thing left to play for. Avoiding Derby County’s record for the fewest points in a Premier League season (11 in 2007-08) will surely serve as motivation for Edwards as he looks to halt the club’s downward spiral.
