Chelsea star Robert Sanchez appeared to hint at even more departures following Enzo Maresca's exit from the club. The Blues announced they had parted company with the 45 year old manager on the opening day of the January transfer window .
Maresca's final game at the helm saw Chelsea draw 2-2 with Bournemouth earlier in the week, with speculation surrounding his position having intensified in the days leading up to Thursday's official announcement. The club now faces the task of finding a successor to the Italian.
Left-back Marc Cucurella took to Instagram to become one of the first Chelsea players to share his gratitude, telling his 2.4 million followers: “Thank you for everything, mister, and to your staff. For the work and the trust from day one, and for the memories.
“Wishing you all the best in what comes next. Good luck, boss!”
The heartfelt message received more than 230,000 likes from supporters and teammates alike. Moises Caicedo, Dario Essugo, Estevao Willian, Pedro Neto , Josh Acheampong, Malo Gusto and Sanchez were all quick to show their support by liking the post.
Nicolas Jackson, currently on loan at Bayern Munich , and club legend John Terry liked the post. Sanchez took to social media to seemingly confirm the potential departure of members of Maresca's backroom staff from the club, reports football.london .
Sanchez expressed his gratitude, saying: "Thank you for everything Enzo, Mickey (De Bernardin), Willy (Caballero), Dani (Walker), Marcos (Alvarez) and Robi (Vitiello)," he said. "Very grateful for the trust and the memories we shared, those will live with me forever.
"Wishing you all the best for the future, will miss you all."
Mirror Football understands Willy Caballero remains with the club and will be involved on Sunday against Manchester City.
Chelsea's Levi Colwill also chimed in, echoing Cucurella's sentiments with a heartfelt message on Instagram: “Not just a top manager but also a top person,” Colwill wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for everything. It was a pleasure to work with you and create great memories.”
Pedro Neto also joined in by expressing his thanks to Maresca for his tenure at Chelsea. “Thank you for everything you and your staff have done,” Neto wrote. “For all the memories, achievements and trust. I wish you all the best.”
Maresca had led Chelsea to victory in the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup only months ago, but now the club is on the search for a new manager following his departure.
The official statement from Chelsea read: "Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company," the statement from Chelsea read. "During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
"Those achievements will remain an important part of the club's recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the club.
"With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future."
Chelsea's upcoming fixture sees them face Manchester City in the Premier League this Sunday, interestingly, the same club that Maresca was linked with amid rumours about Pep Guardiola's future.
