Barcelona president Joan Laporta: “Relations with Real Madrid are very bad and are broken”

We’re just 24 hours away from witnessing the year’s first El Clasico, and it will be a high-stakes one as Barcelona and Real Madrid lock horns in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
While the likes of Hansi Flick and Eric Garcia have pointed out that Real Madrid will be a strong opponent in the final, Barcelona president Joan Laporta highlighted that the team wants to replicate the success of Barça .
Speaking ahead of this crucial final, Laporta also talked about the club’s relationship with Real Madrid and how it has declined in recent months.
Laporta admitted that Barcelona’s relationship with Real Madrid have gone sour, though he said it can always be repaired.
“Relations with Real Madrid are very bad and are currently broken. They can always be repaired, but right now they are like this,” he said.
Laporta went on to point out that Real Madrid are looking to replicate the success of Barcelona last season, and for that, they must win on Sunday.

“Real Madrid want to relive what we experienced last year in terms of the season that was historic for us, and for that, they have to start by winning the Spanish Super Cup,” he said.
Laporta’s statements came as part of the welcome cocktail party ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final, with the Real Madrid team being represented by club legend Emilio Butragueno.
The Barcelona president concluded by heaping praise on RFEF for arranging the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, calling the project a huge success.
“Since it has been played here in Saudi Arabia and since it adopted this ‘final-four’ format, it has gained in prestige and international recognition,” he said.
“For that very reason, I want to thank and congratulate the Royal Spanish Federation and its president, Rafael Louzan, for the excellent organisation and for this championship, the Spanish Super Cup ,” he concluded.
