Tension is reportedly growing between Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim and director of football Jason Wilcox as the club struggles to reinforce its squad in January.

United sit sixth in the Premier League, with Champions League qualification the target, but injuries and AFCON absences have left Amorim short of options.

While both parties previously agreed to avoid short-term “panic buys”, the Daily Mail reports that United may now make no signings at all.

Amorim was believed to expect funds from a potential £65m Antoine Semenyo deal to be reinvested elsewhere, but Wilcox has slowed spending.

Attempts to sign Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton have failed, leaving no active negotiations ongoing.
