Manchester United players have flooded Ruben Amorim with well-wishes on social media after he was sacked as manager on Monday.

The 40-year-old lasted just 14 months as the boss at Old Trafford , departing after a 1-1 draw at Leeds United on Sunday.

It was not the result at Elland Road which ended his tenure, though, but his words in a press conference after the draw.

The Portuguese hit out at the club’s hierarchy, insisted he is a manager and not a head coach, while also confirming that he would not be with Manchester United beyond his contract which ran until 2027.

Unsurprisingly, those comments did not sit well with Red Devils chiefs and Amorim was dismissed on Monday morning.

Amorim’s record at Manchester United was a really poor one , with last season being comfortably the worst in the club’s Premier League history.

However, The Sun report that the players are unhappy he is leaving and he was popular among the current squad, which is borne out by the string of social media messages thanking the departing boss and wishing him well.
