Semenyo follows Adebayor with rare Man City achievement
Antoine Semenyo 's Manchester City career could hardly have started any better.
The 26-year-old has hit the ground running since his £62.5m move from Bournemouth , making an instant impact in his opening two appearances for the club - and in doing so, writing his name into a very small slice of City history.
Semenyo announced himself on Saturday with a goal and an assist on his debut as City swept aside Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup third round. The level of opposition came with an obvious caveat, but his contribution was hard to ignore.
He then backed that up in far more demanding surroundings on Wednesday night, finding the net early in the second-half at St James’ Park to set City on their way to a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
That strike made Semenyo just the second Manchester City player this century to score in each of his first two games for the club. The only other player to manage it is Emmanuel Adebayor , who achieved the same feat in the 2009/10 season following his arrival from Arsenal .
The goal also took his overall tally for the season to 12 across all competitions, combining his output for both City and Bournemouth. He now sits just one goal shy of equalling his best-ever scoring campaign, which came last season when he scored 13 times for the Cherries.
A bright start, a rare record, and early signs that City may already be seeing a return on their investment.
