Ruben Amorim left disappointed after Man United decided against winter transfer window signings

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is disappointed with what he has perceived to be broken promises after the Red Devils told him signing players this transfer window is unlikely, according to talkSPORT . The Man United boss was told in November that he would be backed when the winter transfer window opens. Amorim could do with reinforcements in midfield and attack but will be getting none from the look of things. It has left him disappointed with the Old Trafford club, and there is now growing tension between the Portuguese and Man United director of football Jason Wilcox.

Amorim sent a message to the club today after the 1-1 draw against Leeds United, insisting he joined them as the manager and not just the head coach. He clearly wants to have more authority, but working with Wilcox is not currently going smoothly. Conversations between the duo are now more fraught, while Man United’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell and some of the other bigwigs want him to change his tactics. Vivell was irritated at how the Red Devils’ system was so brazenly explained and exploited in the 1-1 draw against Fulham last August, sending comments from Fulham boss Marco Silva and midfielder Alex Iwobi to the WhatsApp group of the Old Trafford club’s senior leadership.

He outlined the need to evolve to a less predictable system at the time, but Amorim has stuck with his ideas and does not seem to appreciate others at the club telling him how to play. Man United are likely to end the winter window without any addition, but their manager will have no excuses if they miss out on European football again at the end of the season. They are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor before hosting Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third-round on Sunday. Man United have to impress in the FA Cup following early elimination from the Carabao Cup, and Amorim will hope his men deliver against the Seagulls.
