Ruben Amorim fell out with SIX players before eventually being sacked by Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has been sacked by Manchester United after just 14 months in charge at Old Trafford. During this time, the 40-year-old head coach certainly didn't get along with every member of his squad.
Amorim began this Premier League season under immense pressure but managed to arrest a slow start and climb up the table to sit in sixth place. His side drew 1-1 with Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
But after a dramatic press conference , the Portuguese boss has been relieved of his duties after a breakdown in communications . As Amorim waves goodbye to Old Trafford, Mirror Football takes a look at the members of his United squad with whom he didn't see eye to eye.
When Amorim arrived in Manchester it seemed as if Marcus Rashford would flourish under him. The English forward scored three goals in his first two games, but a sharp downturn then occurred.
The manager began questioning Rashford's professionalism after a nightclub incident and in early 2025, he publicly outed the forward. When asked why he wasn't featuring under him, he said: "It's always the same reason - the training. If things don't change, I will not change.
"You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn't give the maximum every day."
Soon, Rashford found himself on loan at Aston Villa and when he returned in the summer, this falling out had lingering effects. Amorim refused to reintegrate him into the United squad and he remains out on loan, this time with Barcelona .

Another high-profile falling-out involving Amorim centered around Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine forward had been linked with a move away from the club, but things got personal during the final stages of United's Europa League campaign in mid-2025.
The manager publicly criticised Garnacho for his miss during their semi-final clash against Athletic Club and he decided to drop the player during their 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the final.
After this, Garnacho said: "Up until the final I played every round helping the team and today I play 20 minutes - I don't know. The final will influence my decision [whether to leave]."

Indeed, just a few months later in August he left for Chelsea in a deal worth £40million, with his relationship with Amorim irreparable. He has even now taken the liberty of liking a social media post breaking the news that Amorim had been sacked.
Jadon Sancho had already butted heads with Erik ten Hag before Amorim arrived but his situation didn't get any better under the Portuguese manager.
Despite thoughts that he might return from a loan move with Chelsea to feature under Amorim, the head coach wasn't impressed with his commitment, as he said when asked why Sancho wasn't playing: "I am building a team based on commitment and specific tactical profiles. Jadon knows his situation."

From there, Amorim reportedly told United's board that it would be better for everyone if Sancho departed. He left for Aston Villa in September, but the two continued to clash.
In December when Villa faced United, Amorim was asked if he'd shake Sancho's hand and replied: "I shake hands with the Villa manager. The players on the pitch for the opposition are not my concern. He is not our player right now. He is just a name on a sheet."
Quickly into Amorim's reign, it became apparent that he did not rate Brazilian winger Antony. He was loaned to Real Betis in January 2025. When asked why, Amorim said: "To play in this system, you need a level of physical intensity that Jadon [Sancho] and Antony are currently struggling to find."
Antony's agent hit out at this claim and in the summer of 2025 he was exiled alongside the likes of Sancho and Rashford, who helped make up a so-called bomb squad.

The Brazilian left for Real Betis permanently over the summer for £22m and has since said he felt like the club and Amorim disrespected him during his time in Manchester.
United signed Rasmus Hojlund under manager Ten Hag and when Amorim arrived, it became clear he wouldn't cut it as the club's first-choice striker.
While he continued to play for Amorim, he was deemed surplus to requirements in the summer and he left for Napoli on loan, with an option to buy included. It was from here that the pair's relationship became jaded.

Amorim was asked in October last year if he regretted letting Hojlund leave, with new signing Benjamin Sesko struggling for goals. He said: "In this system, I cannot have strikers who just wait for the ball. I need intelligent runners; players who can think and react inside the box before the defender moves."
Since then, Hojlund has taken sly jabs at Amorim on social media, captioning a post of him celebrating a Napoli goal: "Thinking fast enough for you?"
After his Napoli side won the Italian Super Cup in December, he also captioned a photo of him holding the trophy with: "What a great decision looks like."
Under Amorim, Kobbie Mainoo had featured scarcely this season, only starting one game against Grimsby Town in the League Cup. This came as a drastic U-turn from the prodigious form he showed for England at Euro 2024 and when bagging an FA Cup-winning goal under Ten Hag.

While the pair only fell out professionally , jibes have been aimed at Mainoo's character, with Amorim reportedly saying that he lacked the speed to play in his two-person midfield.
He had been linked with a move away in this January window and his brother even turned up to their 4-4 draw with Bournemouth in December wearing a "Free Kobbie Mainoo" T-shirt.
