Romano: Euro giants unfazed by Amorim exit, they’re ‘still pushing’ and ‘calling’ for revitalised Utd ace

AS Roma are still looking to facilitate a deal for Joshua Zirkzee this month – even in the midst of Manchester United’s managerial transition.
Indeed, the Serie A outfit are in active pursuit of Zirkzee after initially registering their interest towards the back end of last year.

They had been keeping a close eye on the forward’s reduced role under Ruben Amorim, and saw it as an opportunity to swoop in mid-season and offer him an escape route from his Red Devils struggles.
Zirkzee was also said to be keen on making a move elsewhere in hopes of securing more game time in the build-up to this summer’s World Cup. A switch to Serie A, where he spent two years with Bologna prior to his £36.5 million United move, was an enticing idea.
However, this week’s developments have thrown a spanner in the works for Roma.

Amorim’s dismissal on Monday has prompted speculation that the likes of the Dutchman and fellow out-of-favour star Kobbie Mainoo could well opt to stay put in Manchester this month.
They are open to seeing what kind of role they will play under current interim Darren Fletcher and the incoming caretaker manager, which is currently set to be one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Michael Carrick.
Last night, the pair were not included in Fletcher’s starting XI for the trip to Turf Moor and were instead granted 16-minute cameos off the bench.
Weighing in on Roma’s interest in Zirkzee on the Market Madness podcast (GiveMeSport), Fabrizio Romano said: “Roma are still pushing for Joshua Zirkzee .
“They are still there. They are still calling. So let’s see what happens with the exits.
“But at the moment, for Man United , still nothing imminent. Of course, now we are waiting for the new manager at the moment, and we will understand what’s likely to happen in the January window.”
