Peter Schmeichel fumes at Man Utd managerial decision as finger pointed - 'He has an ego'

Angry Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has criticised the club's director of football, Jason Wilcox , following Ruben Amorim 's recent exit. Amorim had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the footballing structure at Old Trafford, stating his preference for a managerial role with more oversight than that of a head coach.
United's official statement asserted that parting ways with Amorim was in the best interest of their Premier League standing, but there were murmurs about tension between the 40-year-old and Wilcox, who oversees football operations.
As United embarks on the search for a new permanent head coach, Schmeichel has directed his criticism towards the director of football, expressing confusion over the timing of Amorim's exit, reports the Manchester Evening News .
"I was really, really surprised. I hadn't seen that coming, and I can't make sense of it. I still cannot make sense of why," Schmeichel told Viaplay.
"When you speak to people from within, they say, 'It was about time we did that, we've been unhappy'. But why pick that moment? That moment, it doesn't make sense to me. Why? Why now? Why not back in October, for instance?"
Schmeichel then criticised Wilcox, with the United legend stating: "If Jason Wilcox feels that he was insulted by whatever happened in that meeting, then it's not his ego that determines or decides who the manager is.
"They can say, 'Okay, that's not great. It's difficult to work with this guy.' Whatever they're thinking, pick your time. And why put the club back again? No matter what they do now, it's always going to put them back."
Whilst the search for the next permanent appointment continues, efforts are also underway to ensure United can navigate the remainder of the season as effectively as possible.

Darren Fletcher is currently serving as interim manager, having stepped in for the Burnley fixture midweek before taking charge again for the FA Cup clash with Brighton at the weekend.
Discussions are taking place with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick regarding the caretaker position, which would bring some experienced leadership for what's left of the campaign.
This approach would pave the way for a permanent appointment in the summer with a fresh start for the new season, something Amorim wasn't given when he arrived mid-campaign 14 months ago.
It appears that Wilcox and Omar Berrada have taken their lessons on board, but the pressure will be on to ensure the next head coach is the perfect candidate who can finally steer United in the right direction.
