Oliver Glasner was giving little away when asked about speculation linking him with the vacant Manchester United managerial post.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Ruben Amorim following growing tensions between the head coach and the club’s senior hierarchy.

The move brings to an end Amorim’s underwhelming 18-month tenure, which sees him depart Old Trafford with the worst win ratio of any permanent United boss .

Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher has stepped into a caretaker role for W ednesday’s trip to Burnley , with United reportedly keen to appoint an interim until the end of the season.

That move would allow the club to take their time over their next long-term appointment, and reports already suggest that the club are keen on Glasner, who is only under contract at Crystal Palace until the end of the season.

The Austrian has enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Selhurst Park, masterminding Palace’s superb FA Cup win last season, which saw the club qualify for European football for the first time in their history.

But Glasner insisted he is paying no attention to the bookmakers’ odds and has no interest in entertaining speculation surrounding the vacant United role.

‘In my [Palace] contract, [is] one paragraph, I tell you, [that] I am not allowed to bet, and I don’t look at it [the odds],’ Glasner said ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

‘I cannot also give insider information, because then I am also breaking my contract.

‘I am Crystal Palace manager and I just think it makes no sense, and is also wasted time for you to ask me any more questions, so I don’t talk about any other club than Crystal Palace.’

Glasner added: ‘You can sign a new contract, like managers did in the Premier League this year, and [now] they aren’t the manager there any more. Even if I sign a new contract, you could ask me every day, ‘What is the future?’

‘There is one situation which keeps you in your job when you are a manager — and this is being successful. It is the only thing to survive [in] this job.’

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has also been touted as a potential long-term replacement for Amorim, but the Englishman was also keen to distance himself from the role.

‘I’m 100 per cent here, working as hard as I can, head down, ignoring all the stuff that you guys write good or bad because it’s irrelevant.

‘It’s about today’s work and trying to prepare the team as well as we can for Leeds, so that will never change from my perspective, my commitment to my work and my job.

‘As long as I’m happy and able to express myself in the best way that I can to help the team, nothing will change.’
