Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche is set to face his former club Everton when they visit the City Ground on Tuesday for their next Premier League fixture. Forest enter the midweek encounter in 17th place with 18 points, following a narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. Meanwhile, Everton sit comfortably in 12th with 25 points after a goalless draw against Burnley on the same day.

Despite the loss to City—who had won their previous seven matches—Forest can take some encouragement, though they have now suffered three defeats in their last four league outings. Dyche’s side benefited from 18th-placed West Ham United’s 1-0 loss to Fulham, which allowed Forest to maintain a five-point buffer above the relegation zone.

One of Forest’s recent setbacks was a 3-0 defeat to Everton on December 6, marking their fourth loss in five meetings with the Toffees. The Garibaldis have struggled in attack, failing to score in three of their last six Premier League games and averaging just one goal per match (18 in total) this season. Defensively, Forest have managed only one clean sheet in their past five matches and have kept opponents out just once in nine home league games. At the City Ground, they have won three and lost two of their last five matches across all competitions.

For Everton, anything less than a win on Tuesday would extend their winless streak to four matches, with a defeat marking their third loss in that run. Although their recent losses came against strong sides in Chelsea and Arsenal, manager David Moyes will be concerned by his team’s lack of goals, having failed to score in their last three league games. The absence of Iliman Ndiaye, away with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, has been particularly felt, as Everton lack another forward with his ability to stretch defences.

Nevertheless, Moyes can take heart from his team’s defensive solidity, as evidenced by their clean sheet at Turf Moor—their third in five matches. Everton have also proven tough to beat on the road, losing just once in their last five away games. During this stretch, they secured victories over Bournemouth and Manchester United, and held both Sunderland and Burnley to draws.
