Newcastle United bosses are sitting down with a PIF delegation at Matfen Hall ahead of a crucial end-of-season gathering at the country estate. Yasir Al-Rumayyan is understood to have flown in and will lay out his vision plainly to those present.

The Magpies are currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League . Al-Rumayyan declared he wanted Newcastle to be "number 1" back in 2023, and that ambition is still believed to remain firmly intact.

Just hours before the high-profile summit, with Toon chairman and PIF supremo Al-Rumayyan already thought to be on Tyneside, it has been confirmed that Saudi Arabia will no longer bankroll LIV Golf. BBC Sport reported this morning that a "new strategic plan" is being put in place to replace the funding from PIF.

Nevertheless, Al-Rumayyan's attendance at the Newcastle board meeting is itself considered a significant show of commitment as plans for the 2026/27 season are mapped out.

Al-Rumayyan is set to address Newcastle's top brass, including CEO David Hopkinson, Eddie Howe, sporting director Ross Wilson and key behind-the-scenes figures at St James' Park. His address will spell out PIF's sweeping ambitions for Newcastle.

It is understood that Al-Rumayyan is stepping down from his position on the LIV board, having co-founded the tour in 2021, the same year as the Newcastle takeover. This has understandably sparked concerns amongst the Newcastle faithful that PIF could do the same at St James' Park and withdraw their financial backing.

However, Chronicle Live report this will have absolutely no bearing on PIF's continued involvement at Newcastle. The Magpies remain a key part of PIF's strategic portfolio, which was cited as one of three major investments that the club's Saudi backers referenced in their next phase of strategy, looking ahead to 2030.

Prior to heading to the North-East, PIF released a statement that read: "PIF's 2026-2030 strategy provides a clear strategic direction for the coming decades.

"It also strengthens PIF's position as a local and global investor, with a diversified and resilient portfolio that contributes to Saudi Arabia's long-term economic prosperity. PIF's unique mandate will remain the same: to drive the economic transformation of Saudi Arabia and generate sustainable financial returns."

Neither LIV nor PIF have commented on the LIV Golf reports, but the decision is entirely unrelated to Newcastle. Back on December 1, CEO David Hopkinson also made it abundantly clear that PIF were firmly focused on the club, stating at the time: "I love the reference to 2030. Because if it's not time-bound, then it's fantasy.

"It's where do we need to get to by the end of 2025? Where by 2026? 2027? Where are we ahead, where are we behind? What's our mitigation plan? How are we adjusting things? What I will not tell you is that we have written the plan for every granular element that's going to happen between now and 2030.
