Michael Carrick selects Steve Holland as his number two ahead of managerial role

Manchester United are set to undergo a major managerial change, with INEOS apparently confirming the new interim management team that they will employ following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

Immediately after Amorim’s dismissal, Darren Fletcher assumed the role of caretaker manager, yet it was clear from the get-go that a more experienced candidate was desired.

After just two games at the helm, it appears that the former United midfielder will already be replaced.

Carrick incoming

The Peoples Person relayed this morning that Michael Carrick has agreed to become Man United’s caretaker manager until the end of the season.

David Ornstein explained that the agreement is subject to finalising contract details with an announcement from United expected shortly.

Still, the lack of a final announcement has not detracted Carrick from driving ahead with his plans for United, with the club legend already making some key decisions regarding his upcoming tenure.

Carrick’s number two, revealed

“Michael Carrick has agreed to become Manchester United interim head coach – and former England assistant manager Steve Holland is set to be his number two,” BBC Sport reported.

Holland famously served as the right-hand man of England manager Gareth Southgate at Euro 2020, where they reached the final. He expressed a no-nonsense approach, with the Daily Mail going so far as to say that, “discipline is the minimum he expects.”

According to this update, Carrick staff will also include Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate, and Travis Binnion.

Notably, long-time United player Evans has been a part of Fletcher’s current coaching staff, having retired at the end of last season.

With the news surrounding Carrick’s appointment coming in thick and fast, United fans will hope that he and his management team will have a quick and smooth transition to life at Old Trafford as the team looks to turn their season around.
