'Marcus Rashford should be embarrassed – how can his Man Utd team-mates trust him'

Marcus Rashford has been told he "should be embarrassed" returning to Manchester United this summer. The England forward has reunited with Michael Carrick 's squad following his successful spell on loan at Barcelona last season.

Rashford, 28, looked all but guaranteed to join Barca on permanent terms once his temporary spell in Catalonia concluded. However, Los Cules opted to not trigger his £26million clause and signed England team-mate Anthony Gordon from Newcastle instead .

Paul Parker, who won two Premier League titles at Old Trafford, has said Rashford is now on "absolutely his last chance" as he potentially looks set to stay at United this season. However, the retired full-back said Rashford must show humility and "prove a point" as he aims to win over fans (and possibly some team-mates).

Parker told PariuriX: "The biggest thing is, how can he ever be trusted by his teammates again? He wasn't doing his job properly but everyone allowed him to do it [and] now they have figured him out.

"Back in my time you would have been grabbed by one of the senior players and they would do something to you which you wouldn't find very funny.

"He has been given this small chance to come back again and honestly he has only been given this chance because of the fact that Barcelona didn't want him. They decided to spend more money on Anthony Gordon, which Rashford should be feeling embarrassed about. The moment they spent that much money on Gordon, he should be embarrassed."

Gordon's £69.3m move to Barcelona took many by surprise, especially given previous reports suggesting Barca's lack of available finances was a major factor in why they didn't sign Rashford. Not to mention the fact Hansi Flick's side could have had Rashford for nearly a third of that amount.

Alternative transfers are still being explored for Rashford, whose last appearance for United was way back in December 2024. Roma are reportedly interested in the player , while Tottenham have also been linked with his signature.

However, the forward's wages are likely to present a significant hurdle for just about any team likely to make a move. Rashford is the highest earner at Old Trafford on wages of £325,000 a week.

"If he is serious about wanting to prove himself again, it will be a serious challenge for him," added Parker. "Because the fans won't accept him just after one game or one goal, he needs to work hard consistently.

"How does he conduct himself when he is sitting at the bench watching the matches? How is he conducting himself in the training and socially? That is one of the big issues and a big reason that he is where he is.

Prior to his recent loan spells at Barcelona and Aston Villa, Rashford was alleged to have fallen out with former United boss Ruben Amorim . However, Carrick will have his own relationship with the player and reportedly wants him as part of the squad as he looks to build on a hugely impressive term as interim chief.
