Manchester United dealt transfer blow by Newcastle

Manchester United have reportedly been knocked back in their attempt to sign Lewis Hall from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are looking to acquire a new left-back ahead of the 2026/27 season after Tyrell Malacia departed the club, leaving Luke Shaw as the only player in that position in their squad.

As reported at the end of last month, United were exploring the possibility of signing Hall this summer to figure out how much a potential deal might cost them.

However, Newcastle have told United that the England international is “not for sale” after rejecting their initial enquiry two weeks ago, according to Sky Sports News.

Manchester United will “continue to assess their options” in the window, with the new Premier League campaign getting underway in just two weeks’ time.

The addition of another midfielder is a “possibility”, after the club signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Newcastle are desperate to hold onto their first-team players after losing a slew of key men this summer. Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali joined Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, while Bruno Guimaraes is set to complete a move to Arsenal. Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, John Ruddy and Emil Krafth also departed St. James’ Park at the end of their contracts.
