Manchester United board block January sale of forward
Manchester United have blocked a potential exit for Joshua Zirkzee , following the decision to sack Ruben Amorim as head coach.
Zirkzee had been expected to leave the club this month after struggling for first-team football.
The Dutchman has started just four games in the Premier League this season and has been open to a January move to boost his hopes of making the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.
Roma had been interested in bringing Zirkzee back to Serie A. The former Bologna forward was named Italy’s Young Player of the Season in his final campaign with his former side, before moving to Manchester in 2024.
His time in the Premier League has been challenging. Zirkzee has scored just five goals in 46 league games for the Red Devils, while the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have reduced his role.
However, Roma sporting director Ricky Massara has revealed that United have cancelled all transfer talks between the clubs after the decision to sack Amorim.rashf The club are keen for any new coach to assess the squad before sales are made.
“Manchester United have closed all doors now with the managerial change,” Massara said.
“It looks highly unlikely to sign Zirkzee now”.
