With the 2026/27 campaign fast approaching, the priority is to maintain the momentum generated at the end of last season and ensure Michael Carrick's side are equipped to hit the ground running.

Having spent the previous two summer windows addressing issues in attack and defence, the focus has now shifted towards strengthening the midfield. United have already made significant moves in that department, with Andrey Santos arriving from Chelsea in a £50million deal and Youri Tielemans joining from Aston Villa for £35m.

However, the business is not expected to stop there. The club remain active in the market and continue to monitor a number of high-profile targets, including reinforcements beyond midfield as they look to complete a much-needed squad overhaul.

Lewis Hall has emerged as a top target for United this summer, with reports claiming an official approach for the Newcastle defender has been approved internally. The England international has been linked with a move away from St James' Park for some time, with United among a number of Premier League heavyweights keeping a close eye on his situation.

The Red Devils see Hall as a potential long-term replacement for Luke Shaw and are reportedly considering an opening bid worth around £60m for the 21-year-old. Although Hall remains tied down to Newcastle until 2029, the significant upheaval at the club could potentially open the door to an exit.

The Magpies have already seen Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and manager Eddie Howe all leave in recent weeks, while Bruno Guimaraes is expected to follow suit in the coming days. Hall could yet follow them through the exit door, although Newcastle's impressive summer sales could actually strengthen their negotiating position.

Having already generated around £170m through player departures - a figure that could rise towards £250m if Guimaraes completes his proposed switch to Arsenal - Newcastle are under no financial pressure to cash in on Hall.

Manchester United could be set to make their third major midfield signing of the summer, with Bournemouth star Alex Scott reportedly open to the possibility of joining Carrick's side. The 22-year-old is attracting significant interest from across the Premier League, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal also keeping tabs on his situation.

Scott is believed to be considering all options at this stage, with no clear frontrunner emerging in the race for his signature. Reports claim Chelsea recently saw a £64m offer rejected by Bournemouth, although that does not necessarily put them ahead of their rivals in what remains a fiercely contested transfer battle.

The Cherries are thought to value Scott at around £70m, but given the level of competition for his services, that asking price could climb closer to £80m. United would then need to weigh up whether such a sizeable outlay represents good value.
