Man Utd bosses STILL undecided on Michael Carrick despite alternatives being unavailable

Manchester United's hierarchy are still undecided over whether to hand Michael Carrick a long-term contract despite a lack of alternative options being available.
Carrick came in to replace Ruben Amorim in January and has overseen a huge upturn in results, which has effectively saved the club's season. United were seventh when Carrick took over, showing little consistency. They now sit third and are poised for a return to the Champions League .
The 44-year-old, who has consistently refused to be drawn on whether he'll get the job long-term, has won eight of his 12 games in charge, including triumphs over Manchester City , Arsenal and Chelsea . However, that run has not yet convinced the Old Trafford bosses that he's their man.
Senior figures are committed to waiting until the season is over before making a call on who will be their manager, report The Guardian . Carrick himself is being involved in the club's summer transfer plans, which suggests he could remain in his post.
United had been keen to avoid a repeat of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer situation. The Norwegian was never their long-term plan when he arrived in 2018, but a string of impressive results ultimately saw them hand him the job, but he left after three years without winning a trophy.
The club's apparent reluctance to appoint Carrick as of yet suggests they are still analysing the market, however a number of major names look to be unavailable. Back when Erik ten Hag was in charge Thomas Tuchel was sounded out about taking the role, but he later took the England job. He's already signed a contract extension to keep him in charge of the Three Lions before this summer's World Cup. Another international manager in Julian Nagelsmann is of interest, but the Germany boss is tied down until Euro 2028 and would likely only move on if the Germans had a horrific World Cup.

United's transfer business could yet be hampered if they don't have a manager in situ. Potential arrivals would likely be influenced by who is in charge of the club and the Red Devils are eyeing some big names. At last one central midfield, possibly two, are the priority.
Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson has long been touted as a target whilst other Premier League stars Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba are also on their radar. More recently United have been credited with an interest in Real Madrid ’s Aurelian Tchouameni.
