Liverpool's Milos Kerkez makes extraordinary Andy Robertson claim ahead of Anfield exit

Liverpool ace Milos Kerkez claims that Andy Robertson is the "best left-back in Premier League history" as the Scot prepares to depart Anfield.

Robertson had been a stalwart on Merseyside up until this season, where he's largely had to accept a role as Kerkez's back up. The Scot is among the bargains of the modern age having been signed by Jurgen Klopp for just £8million.

In the years since he's twice won the Premier League and also the Champions League . His energy down the left flank has been a huge asset with Robertson providing numerous assists. He's had to make do with limited minutes this season following the arrival of Kerkez.

Robertson's contract was expiring this summer and it has been confirmed he'll move on - with Kerkez claiming Liverpool will be losing the best player to ever play in his position in the Premier League era.

He told ESPN when asked about Robertson: "He really is a legend. The best [left back in Premier League history]. I said it, and I believe that because of what a player he is, how much energy he has, how much running and assisting. It's really unbelievable."

Kerkez was signed for £40million after impressing at Bournemouth and was quickly installed as first choice, despite by no means hitting the ground running. Robertson could've kicked up a fuss but the Hungarian praised the way he dealt with the setback and was always there to offer advice.

He claimed: "Robbo's a big player who did a lot of stuff for the club. At the end of the day, we had to compete this season for playing minutes but there's no bad blood. I came in, and he took me under his wing and helped me a lot.

"He gave me advice along the way. When you see these players, you want to learn from them and when it's time to succeed them, you have to be there. I know this is a big thing. He gave a lot to the club. I know I have big shoes to fill in the future, that's for sure. I'm going to give my best."

Robertson claimed earlier this season that he knew the day would come where the club had to start thinking about life beyond him, especially with the Scot in his 30s, but insisted he had nothing to prove in a Liverpool shirt.

He said: "It is what it is, Milos is a fantastic left-back, had an unbelievable season last season at Bournemouth and has taken a little bit of time to settle in to a big club, which everyone does. The club has to move forward, the lads that have been here for so long, we are not getting any younger, we are in our 30s now and the replacements have to come in."
