Kompany warns Bayern against dangerous complacency

Despite an eleven-point lead in the Bundesliga , Vincent Kompany remains firm. After the 8:1 win against Wolfsburg, the Bayern coach warns against carelessness

FC Bayern have set another exclamation mark with their 8-1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg , impressively underlining their supremacy in the Bundesliga . Following the slip-up by rivals Borussia Dortmund, the Munich side have now moved eleven points clear at the top of the table. In the public eye, it is no longer a question of whether the record champions will become German champions again, but only when the decision will be made

Internally, however, a completely different tone prevails at Säbener Straße. Coach Vincent Kompany leaves no doubt that, despite the comfortable starting position, there is no reason for him to relax. The Belgian does not think in terms of the standings, but exclusively from game to game – and it is precisely this attitude that he wants to instil in his team

After the resounding victory against Wolfsburg, Kompany made it clear that the current dominance is no guarantee for the rest of the season. Especially with a view to the upcoming tasks in the Champions League, many observers see the danger that the excitement in the league could diminish. Kompany strongly disagrees with this logic

„I’ve told the boys: it doesn’t matter how many points we have. In my opinion, you always start from scratch,“ explained the 39-year-old. For the Bayern coach, every Bundesliga match is a new test – regardless of the league position or the name of the opponent

Kompany’s clear warning against carelessness is particularly noteworthy. The Belgian deliberately chose drastic words to sharpen up his team: „If we lose a game, it’s sometimes as if we give the title to the opponent, and we don’t want to let that happen.“

This mindset explains why Bayern continue to perform with maximum intensity despite their high lead. Kompany is not concerned with cosmetic results or records, but with an inner attitude that allows no excuses. Every point loss is to be avoided – not out of fear, but out of sporting ambition

While fans and experts speculate about possible championship celebrations, Kompany sees his team’s dominance more as an obligation. In his view, the great quality of the squad and the clear lead do not increase comfort, but responsibility

FC Bayern should not define itself by the gap to the competition, but by its daily work, its intensity and its winning mentality. This is precisely the core of Kompany’s approach – and possibly also the key to Munich not only becoming champions with aplomb, but also being able to call up their highest level of performance in the decisive moments of the season.
