Julian Nagelsmann makes decision about becoming next permanent Man United boss
Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann’s stance on potentially becoming the next permanent Manchester United boss has emerged.
On Tuesday, United released a statement officially confirming the appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Carrick temporarily takes over from Ruben Amorim, who was sacked last week after 14 months in charge. Amorim struggled to implement his ideas at Old Trafford, leading to inconsistent results and performances that highlighted his turbulent spell.
Fractures in his relationship with the football leadership group eventually led United to pull the trigger and relieve him of his duties.
United’s idea is for Carrick to see through the campaign with a view to making a permanent hire in the summer, having had sufficient time to carefully select the next man for the hot seat.
Some of the names being mentioned include Roberto De Zerbi, Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola and Enzo Maresca. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Nagelsmann is also of interest to the Red Devils.
United’s admiration for Nagelsmann stretches back to his RB Leipzig days. Despite multiple near misses, the two have yet to unite. Now, another opportunity may finally bring them together.
According to Football Insider , Nagelsmann wants the United job.
The news outlet reveals, “Julian Nagelsmann is interested in taking the Manchester United job if he decides to return to club management this summer, sources have told Football Insider.”
“The 38-year-old’s full focus is on leading Germany in the upcoming World Cup at the moment, but he views the manager’s role at Old Trafford as an attractive proposition for the future.”
It’s understood that United chief Christopher Vivell is keen on a reunion with Nagelsmann, having worked together at RB Leipzig.
Football Insider notes that United face a huge stumbling block if they opt to move in for Nagelsmann, who has been branded ‘Baby Mourinho’ . He is contracted to Germany until 2028, so it may take a significant compensation fee to free him from the obligations outlined in his terms.
United are said to be doing due diligence on several candidates, not just Nagelsmann.
