Jack Grealish sent off as Everton caught up in hair pull double red card drama vs Wolves
Michael Keane and Jack Grealish have both been sent off in Everton's Premier League clash with Wolves . The Toffees defender was initially booked for an offence on Tolu Arokodare, but a VAR review deemed it to be violent conduct as he had pulled the Wolves striker's hair.
David Moyes was also cautioned for leaving his technical area. Grealish meanwhile, was shown a second yellow card for sarcastically clapping towards the referee after winning a foul.
On Keane's dismissal, the Premier League Match Centre on X stated: " #EVEWOL – 80’ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of no foul by Keane and issued a red card for violent conduct.
"Referee announcement: “After review, Everton 5 commits an act of violent conduct on the Wolves 14. My final decision will be red card and a direct free kick to Wolves.”
Keane had earlier put Everton in front but the league's bottom side struck back in the second half with Mateus Mane on target, just a few days on from scoring his first goal against West Ham United.
With the offence being violent conduct, Keane will be banned for the next three games while Grealish will be suspended for one.
Everton will play Sunderland in the FA Cup without both while Keane cannot feature against Aston Villa or Leeds United .
Everton are already without some key players due to injury and AFCON and Moyes is unlikely to be pleased by the bizarre decisions from his players.
Idrissa Gueye, who is one of those away in Morocco, was sent off earlier in the season for slapping Keane but Everton still beat United at Old Trafford that night with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on target.
The latter has not played for Everton in their last five games because of a hamstring injury suffered in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea .
Moyes has remained coy on when the attacking midfielder could return to action.
He said: "Kiernan is doing well, but not available for the game. He'll be a big miss for us, but that's what happens this time of year. Every club has injuries or suspensions.”
