“I’m a bit crazy… I’m a strange guy” – Rosenior’s childhood stories which make us very excited

Liam Rosenior’s press conference yesterday with the media was very well done. He’s a great speaker and he really nicely communicated his message about what he wants to bring to Chelsea and how happy he is to be there.

But his 1 on 1 with Joe Cole was even more impressive and interesting, as he was able to open up and be himself a little more. The coach describes himself as “crazy” and gives some evidence for that.

Liam Rosenior takes his first Chelsea training session, with Dario Essugo present.

He’s clearly a coaching obsessive – he says he was managing 11 year olds on the playground as a kid. And when he drew a picture of what he wanted to be at school, he drew a manager rather than a player, looking up to his father who had taken that path.

He used to go on the coach with his dad, and do set pieces around the kitchen table.

That’s some pedigree – it won’t guarantee him anything as a coach, but it certainly is very endearing.

“I’m a strange guy mate, I’m a strange guy,” he said with a smile. There’s nothing wrong with that – we like someone who’s a bit weird, a bit strange, a bit crazy. The very best in their fields often are. After the dour Maresca, it’s certainly a nice change.

Rosenior has made his intentions for tonight’s game very clear – he knows what he wants to see from his group, and he’s already communicated that to them.

Rosenior is under no illusions about tonight’s game. It’s going to be a real challenge, and he said he has tried to communicate that to his players ahead of their late kick off.
