Everton welcome Manchester United , who currently sit three places above them in the Premier League standings, with the chance to complete a league double over the Red Devils for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign. However, history is not on the Toffees’ side, as they have suffered more home defeats to United than any other opponent—a statistic that underscores the challenge they face in Monday’s round 27 clash, United’s first visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton’s 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in November was their first league win at the venue since December 2013, a match remembered as much for Idrissa Gueye’s sending off—after slapping teammate Michael Keane—as for the result itself. That win was a rare high point for David Moyes during his time as United manager in 2013-14, which ironically remains the last time Everton beat United in Manchester. Moyes will be eager to get one over on his former club on Monday night.

Yet, Everton’s recent home form offers little encouragement. They have lost five of their last ten matches at their new stadium, managing just three wins in that stretch. Moyes’s side are winless in their last five home games, suffering defeats to Arsenal, Brentford, and Bournemouth. They are also searching for their first home clean sheet since a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in early December.

A victory would boost Everton’s hopes of European qualification, with sixth-placed Liverpool only five points ahead. However, beating United again will be a tough task, given the visitors’ recent resurgence since Michael Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim. United are unbeaten in their last nine league games—a run that began before Carrick’s appointment—and have won four of their last five, including a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser from Benjamin Sesko in a 1-1 draw with West Ham.

United enter round 27 joint-top of the form table with Chelsea over the last five games and are favourites to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches. Their supporters will be expecting another positive result on their first trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium, as United seek a 20th away win and 43rd overall against Everton—both records against any Premier League opponent. Three points would keep them ahead of Chelsea for another week, with both sides level on points after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday. Carrick’s men know that a win is essential to reclaim fourth place and will hope their strong record on Merseyside continues under the lights on Monday.

Jake O’Brien, who was sent off in Everton’s last Premier League outing against Bournemouth, remains unavailable, as does long-term absentee Jack Grealish due to an ankle injury. However, David Moyes is boosted by the return of Seamus Coleman, who is set to feature for the first time since late January.

In attack, Thierno Barry and Iliman Ndiaye have both netted five goals this season, matching Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s tally. Notably, the forwards have scored three of their goals at home, while Dewsbury-Hall has two home strikes to his name. All three will be eager to add to their totals on Merseyside. Dewsbury-Hall, in particular, is chasing a piece of history—he could become the first English Everton player since Andy King in the 1978-79 season to score against Manchester United both home and away in a single campaign.

While United have recently relied on Benjamin Sesko’s late heroics, Bruno Fernandes remains their standout performer. The United captain has contributed two goals and eight assists in his last nine Premier League away matches and will look to make a decisive impact once again on Monday night. No United player has surpassed Bryan Mbeumo’s 10 away goals this season, but Sesko, who has four, will also be aiming to increase his tally in these fixtures.

Michael Carrick has no major stars missing from his squad, but United will be without Mason Mount, Matthijs de Ligt (back), and Patrick Dorgu (thigh), who are all sidelined through injury.
