Chris Sutton accused Pedro Neto of letting his Chelsea teammates down and branded the winger ‘an idiot’ after Sunday’s defeat against Arsenal .

Disciplinary issues have plagued the Blues throughout the course of another turbulent season and so it proved against at the Emirates Stadium.

Liam Rosenior ’s side looked well placed to take at least a point from a fractious London derby, before Jurrien Timber scored the winning goal with24 minutes remaining.

Neto was yellow carded for protesting the decision to allow that goal and compounded that show of frustration just three minutes later when he was booked again for scything down Gabriel Martinelli who had been leading a dangerous break.

Chelsea have now seen nine players sent-off in all competitions last season and their lack of discipline is severely hampering their chances of getting in the top four and progressing in Europen.

‘From Chelsea’s point of view, Pedro Neto let them down badly,’ said the former Chelsea striker after the game.

‘What an idiot getting sent off like that.’

Asked about another Chelsea player suffering from a rush of blood to the head, skipper Reece James revealed he and his teammates will attempt to find a solution as quickly as possible.

He said: ‘We’ve spoken about it, it’s come up a number of times, every time it’s someone different, not the same player. Internally we need to review and keep improving.

‘It’s a problem, we are playing in the toughest league in the world, you play against top or bottom 11 v 11 it’s tough, 11 v 10 is even harder no matter who you are playing.

‘I have no doubt in the team and staff, it didn’t go our way today but we need to regroup and go again.’

‘It’s disappointing to walk away empty handed. When it was 1-1 we had a half chance to make it 2-1, their goalie made a good save, they got a set-piece and manage to score.’

All three goals in an absorbing contest came from corner kicks with James’ delivery a real thorn in Arsenal’s side.
