Chelsea set price for three Premier League clubs to sign Liam Delap

Chelsea have set their asking price for Liam Delap as three Premier League clubs plot a summer move for the out-of-favour striker.

Chelsea beat a host of rivals, most notably Manchester United , to sign Delap in a £30million deal from Ipswich Town last summer .

Much was expected of the young Englishman after a promising first season in the English top flight with Ipswich, but Delap struggled to kick on in his maiden season at Stamford Bridge.

In a campaign affected by injury and suspension, Delap only scored two goals in 41 appearances and was forced to play back-up to fellow summer signing Joao Pedro .

Such an underwhelming season has led to speculation that Delap could be sold this summer, particularly as the Blues have already bolstered their centre forward options further since Xabi Alonso ’s arrival.

Emmanuel Emegha has arrived from Strasbourg , while Danny Welbeck is posied to join from Brighton to add some much-needed experience in forward areas.

Nicolas Jackson could also be fighting for a place in Chelsea’s starting XI after he returned from a largely unsuccessful loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Delap is not short of potential suitors should Chelsea look to part ways with the 23-year-old, with Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United all keen to sign the striker.

And the i Paper reports that the Blues would consider selling Delap if they receive an offer between £35m and £40m.

Both Forest and Leeds are keen to sign Delap to provide competition to their more senior strikers in Chris Wood and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton, meanwhile, have long been linked with a move for Delap, with David Moyes said to be a big fan of the young striker.

But not everyone is keen to see Delap depart Chelsea, with former England midfielder Danny Murphy insistent that Alonso will want to give Delap a chance before sanctioning any exit .

‘I think any manager coming in has to give players a chance so I think he’ll want to look at them and see what they’ve got,’ he told Metro.

‘The other thing is that there might not be other clubs who want to take them with the wages they are on or pay the fee for them.

‘That is just the dynamic of football politics and transfers, you can easily say “they haven’t done very well let’s move them on”, but where to, and for how much?

‘I think Alejandro Garnacho has struggled, and the fans haven’t taken to him. A lot of Chelsea’s wide players have struggle to be honest, if you look at their front line, it’s only really Joao Pedro who has done well.

‘If one was going to leave, I think it would more likely be Garnacho than Liam Delap.
