Chelsea readying opening offer for Jeremy Jacquet

Chelsea are preparing an offer for Stade Rennais’ Jeremy Jacquet as they intensify efforts to strengthen their defence this winter, according to RMC Sport .

The 20-year-old is a top target at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea convinced he fits their long-term defensive plans.​

After months of monitoring Jacquet, Chelsea are now ready to act with an opening bid to test Rennes’ resolve.

Rennes are in a strong negotiating position thanks to the player’s long-term deal, which runs until 2029 after an extension back in May.

The French outfit are reportedly hoping for a new club record sale, surpassing the €64 million they recouped from Jeremy Doku’s move to Manchester City.

Chelsea’s opening bid, expected to be around €50 million, is likely to serve more as a starting point for talks.

Jacquet fits neatly into Chelsea’s recruitment strategy of investing in young, high‑potential talents who can develop within a clearly defined project.

Standing at around 1.90m, he is strong in the air and aggressive in stepping forward to break opposition lines.

After previously refusing to sign a new centre-back at the request of ex-manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s renewed focus on defensive reinforcement has been prompted by concerns over depth, injuries and inconsistency at the back.
