Chelsea hold talks over Liam Rosenior’s future as crisis deepens

Chelsea are weighing up whether to end Liam Rosenior ’s time at the club as manager after their crisis deepened with defeat at Brighton on Tuesday night.

The Blues have now suffered five successive Premier League defeats, the worst run for the club in 114 years.

After going down 3-0 at the Amex , Rosenior was left furious with his players, describing their performance as “indefensible”.

But after just three months in charge, with the club left in seventh, and now seven points off Liverpool and a Champions League place, despite playing a game more, a change could be imminent, with the club’s fans also restless following a recent protest against BlueCo.

Chelsea are now considering the next steps and what that could look like without Rosenior, though it is understood that no alternative manager has been lined up yet as a potential replacement.

Should the club opt to cut ties with Rosenior, it could prove an expensive decision, with the 41-year-old signing a five-and-a-half year contract in January to replace Enzo Maresca.

The Englishman arrived at Stamford Bridge having worked with Chelsea’s owners at French side Strasbourg, an affiliate club under the BlueCo model.

And last week, co-owner Behdad Eghbali insisted Chelsea were “behind Liam” despite their rocky run of form and said he had “every attribute to be successful”.

But now, just days away from Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley, Rosenior’s future is in doubt.
