Chelsea: Calum McFarlane to become Liam Rosenior's assistant after impressing new manager

New Blues boss wants to keep caretaker coach close by

Calum McFarlane is to become Liam Rosenior 's assistant after impressing the new Chelsea manager.

Standard Sport understands that McFarlane will not return to his role as Under-21s boss, a position he has held since the summer.

But Rosenior has been so impressed by McFarlane during his two-match spell as caretaker manager - a 1-1 draw at Manchester City and 2-1 defeat at Fulham - that he will remain with the first team.

The decision was made on Thursday morning.

Following Chelsea’s loss to Fulham on Wednesday evening, McFarlane was asked whether his role at the club would change.

He told reporters: "As I'm aware, we're back with the Under-21s tomorrow. They're playing tonight. I actually don't know the score. I'd love to know the score, if anyone knows?"

Chelsea’s youth side had lost 6-2 to Benfica, much to Farlane’s visible frustration upon hearing the scoreline.
