Chelsea announce Liam Rosenior as new boss on huge contract after Enzo Maresca drama

Liam Rosenior has been appointed Chelsea's new head coach following the bombshell departure of Enzo Maresca . Rosenior, 41, has signed a bumper contract which runs until 2032.

The Blues parted ways with Maresca on New Year's Day and the Englishman was quickly identified as the favourite to replace him. Rosenior arrives from French side Strasbourg who he guided into Europe last season, another club owned by the Todd Boelhy and Clearlake Capital consortium.

"I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club," Rosenior said. "This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.

"My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.

Maresca left Chelsea amid mounting tensions in the boardroom coupled with declining results on the pitch. The 45-year-old's exit came just six months after he'd led Chelsea to glory at the Club World Cup , having also won the last season's Conference League.

Rosenior has seen his stock rise at Strasbourg, who sit seventh in Ligue 1 and have some former Blues on their books, including Ben Chilwell . They're also top of the Conference League table, having won all but one of their games.

Rosenior, however, heads to Stamford Bridge with no Premier League experience. His only two jobs in England saw him take charge of Derby County on an interim basis before he had just over 18 months at Hull City , where they narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

Chelsea are fifth in the Premier League, three points off the top four, as they aim to qualify for the Champions League once again. In Europe, the Blues are on course to enter the play-offs for the last 16 but have two games left in their bid to qualify automatically.
