Burnley will be aiming to finish 2025 on a high note in the Premier League when they host Newcastle United at Turf Moor on Tuesday. The Clarets, currently embroiled in a relegation battle, haven’t tasted victory since late October, but they may take heart from Newcastle’s struggles away from home this season.

Scott Parker’s side endured a miserable seven-game losing streak through November and most of December, but spirits have lifted somewhat after back-to-back draws. Burnley followed up a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on December 20 by earning a point in a goalless stalemate against Everton on Saturday, which also marked their first clean sheet in ten matches. That result allowed Burnley to close the gap to 17th-placed Nottingham Forest to five points, though they remain 19th in the standings with just 12 points.

The Clarets will be eager to build on these recent improvements, especially with Newcastle’s poor away form in mind. However, Burnley’s own attacking woes need addressing—they managed only one shot on target, in the 86th minute, against Bournemouth and failed to test Everton’s Jordan Pickford at all despite registering 16 attempts. If Burnley can secure their first win since their 3-2 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers in October, it would provide a much-needed boost heading into the New Year. Conversely, another defeat could leave them as much as eight points from safety.

On the other side, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have shown they can beat anyone on their day, but consistency has eluded them in the 2025-26 campaign. The Magpies have managed just one win in their last five matches, with two losses and two draws. Their most recent outing saw them fall 1-0 to Manchester United on Boxing Day, extending their winless league run to three games. Newcastle currently sit 14th with 23 points—ten clear of the relegation zone but nine behind the top four as the season reaches its midpoint.

Newcastle fans can take encouragement from their 2-1 victory over Burnley at St James’ Park earlier this month, and the team will view this fixture as a prime opportunity to get back on track. With the chance to finish 2025 in the top half—just a few points behind Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Brentford—there is plenty of motivation for Howe’s men. However, with only one league win away from home all season, Newcastle supporters will approach the trip with cautious optimism.
