Burnley vs Everton Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Burnley are in urgent need of points at the lower end of the Premier League table as they prepare to face an Everton side coming off back-to-back league defeats. The recent form does not favor the Clarets, who, despite showing some fight against AFC Bournemouth, remain winless in their last eight Premier League matches. Burnley have lost seven of those eight games, and notably, their only three victories this season have come against newly promoted teams or a struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers side, whom they narrowly beat thanks to a late goal from Lyle Foster.
Defensively, Burnley have experienced a dramatic decline compared to last season. After boasting the best defensive record in the Championship with just 16 goals conceded, they have already let in 34 goals across 17 Premier League games. Scott Parker’s men have been particularly vulnerable early on, conceding first in each of their last six matches.
On the Everton side, the absence of Iliman Ndiaye—currently on AFCON duty with Senegal—will be a blow to their creative options. Manager David Moyes turned to the more traditional wing play of Dwight McNeil against Arsenal, but the likes of Jack Grealish could still make an impact against Burnley’s expected deep defensive line, with the Manchester City loanee already contributing six goals and assists this season. While Everton come into this fixture on the back of two losses, it’s worth noting those defeats were against Chelsea and Arsenal. Looking at the broader picture, the Toffees have won four of their last seven league matches, including back-to-back victories over Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.
Matches involving Everton have tended to be low-scoring affairs, with six of their last eight games featuring under 2.5 goals. Both teams have averaged just over a goal per game this season, and if Everton take the lead, it’s unlikely Burnley will pose much of a threat going forward.
