Same old issues resurface for Thomas Frank’s side on return to west London

Tottenham and Brentford held one another to a dull goalless draw to open their 2026 campaigns.

Thomas Frank made an emotional first return to the Gtech Community Stadium for the match and took a moment to greet his old fans before kick-off, but could not replicate any of the pragmatic, swashbuckling football for which his Brentford side was known.

Spurs were abject in the first half, and Brentford were not much better. The second half passed largely without incident, too, as Igor Thiago missed one presentable chance and the visitors’ most threatening moment came as Archie Gray had a penalty shout waved away.
