Aston Villa aim to punish Leeds United's poor away form in Premier League clash

Aston Villa will aim to strengthen their position in the Premier League table and potentially close the gap on leaders Arsenal when they welcome Leeds United to Villa Park on Saturday.

Unai Emery's side has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, sitting third in the Premier League after 26 matches, five points clear of Manchester United. The Midlanders have turned Villa Park into a fortress this season, boasting the third-best home record in the league, behind only Manchester City and Arsenal. They have suffered just two defeats in their last 11 home league matches.

Leeds United come into this fixture off a decent run of form, now unbeaten in their last three matches. More worrying for them is that they've failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous five outings.

While Leeds are likely to avoid relegation this season, Daniel Farke remains concerned about their away form. They have managed just one away win in the Premier League this term, against Wolves. Overall, Leeds have averaged just 0.62 points per game away from Elland Road this season.

The two sides experienced contrasting fortunes in FA Cup fourth-round ties last weekend. Emery’s men fell to a 3-1 defeat in an eventful home tie with Newcastle United just under 24 hours before Leeds needed a penalty shoot-out to come through a tough visit to Championship side Birmingham City.

Aston Villa will hope for some relief from their injury issues ahead of this weekend’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United. Villa's loss last weekend was without right-back Matty Cash, who has missed his side’s previous two games with a knee injury. The Poland international had scans following a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth earlier this month, before sitting out a 1-0 win over Brighton and Saturday’s defeat against Newcastle.
