Arsenal fans already have reason to celebrate this season, having marked St Totteringham’s Day following Spurs’ defeat against Fulham . Igor Tudor’s men slipped to a 2-1 loss at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.

Harry Wilson opened the scoring for the home side, with former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi doubling the advantage. Richarlison found a foothold for Spurs in the second-half but they were unable to complete the turnaround.

And while Arsenal will have been toasting another miserable afternoon for their bitter rivals, their defeat has taken on even more significance.

With just 10 games and 30 points left to play for this season, Spurs already find themselves 32 points behind Arsenal, meaning that they can no longer officially finish above them in the Premier League table - an occasion that has affectionately been dubbed St Totteringham’s Day by Arsenal fans.

The day however is even more significant this season, having arrived earlier than any other campaign. Arsenal fans took to social media to celebrate the occasion.

One fan said: “Once a Gooner, always a Gooner. Happy St Totteringham's Day Iwobi!,” while another added: “Happy St. Totteringham's Day..”

Arsenal have been dominant over their North London rivals in the Premier League era. Arsenal have finished above their fierce rivals in 25 of the past 33 Premier League seasons - a run that has now been extended.

And while the Premier League title might be slightly higher on their agenda, they could potentially secure another memorable record against Tottenham before the end of the campaign.

The biggest gap between the two sides at the end of a season has been 45 points, with Arsenal amassing 90 points on their way to the title during the 2003/04 campaign - a season in which they finished the season without losing a game.

Arsenal took a significant step towards beating that record by beating Spurs last week away from home . Eberechi Eze netted a brace against Spurs, having previously netted a hat-trick against them earlier this season.

Randal Kolo-Miani had managed to find the net for Tudor’s side to level matters. But Viktor Gyokeres netted a second-half brace to round off a comprehensive win for Arsenal.

That win also saw Arsenal take a significant step towards the Premier League title. But Spurs remain in real relegation trouble, with the side having just a four point advantage over 18th-placed West Ham .
