Liverpool offloaded Caoimhin Kelleher last summer and failed to include a buy-back clause in his move as the club look increasingly to life beyond Alisson.

The Brazilian was one of the catalysts for the club's success under Jurgen Klopp , winning the Champions League in his debut year before becoming a Premier League champion 12 months later.

For the latter part of Klopp's tenure Alisson was backed up by an Irishman in Kelleher. His opportunities were few and far between, but he regularly impressed when given the shot - saving a Kylian Mbappe penalty in a Champions League clash one of his headline moments.

But his desire to be a No 1 meant Arne Slot gave the green light for him to join Brentford 12 months ago. The Bees spent an initial £12.5m, which could rise to £18m with add-ons to land the 27-year-old but crucially were able to avoid giving Liverpool a buy-back clause.

The Reds are known for being shrewd in the market and could come to regret the decision with the Athletic reporting that the idea of him returning to Anfield hasn't been ruled out.

New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola could be the man tasked with replacing Alisson in the Liverpool goal. The Brazilian, now 33, has been linked with the likes of Juventus and endured one of his more difficult campaigns last term.

In an ideal world Kelleher would not have left Anfield but his ambitions for first-team football meant he had no choice. He was part of an impressive Brentford side that were tipped for relegation under Keith Andrews, but threatened to secure European football last season.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed by Liverpool in 2024, but the Georgian was allowed to remain with Valencia for a further 12 months. He was Alisson's No 2 last term and would be the favourite to assume the starting role if dynamics changed on Merseyside. He started 10 league games last term.

He would only keep two clean sheets in that time and, across his 10 starts, Liverpool lost on six occasions. Iraola has just replaced Slot in the dugout and will be casting his eye over the squad he's inherited, which could lead to some high profile changes.

Another goalkeeper on Liverpool's books is Freddie Woodman, who made three Premier League outings last term, one of those off the bench. The 29-year-old was signed from Preston last summer after a nomadic career that has seen him loaned out to a raft of football league and Scottish clubs.
